“ The landscape of any farm is the owners portait of himself ”
Farming is a necessity. The needs that a population of over 6 billion has for food and sustainence can only be organized through some time of farming practice. We wont all become foragers any time soon. That being said, we need to commit ourselves to farming and gardening practices which work with nature and not against nature.
Tilling fields, cultivating land, and trying to shape nature to an economic fit, do not meet natures requirements. Dumping unnatural fertilizers pesticides and other chemicals into our fields does not qualify either. Most of these unnatural methods are only a few generations old. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers have only been around for little over half a century. The problems that these practices and chemicals are causing are devastating. 99% of the midwest prarie has either now been converted to farmland or developed over. for example look at this google map picture from Google Earth mapping service.
