Wind energy created from wind turbines is a very simple idea. Look at your alternator under the hood of your car and you'll get the idea. A wind turbine is composed basically of the blades that spin an alternator which turns to create an electric current. Its basically an electric motor turned inside out. Instead of electricity powering something to spin, you have something spinning which creates electricity. Simliarly, the motor in your car is connected to the alternator via the serpentine belt. The motor spins the belt which turns the alternator to charge your car battery.
Generating and Storing Wind Energy - This illustrates how some utilities are pumping water up hill or upstream, in order to store the energy for when it is needed the most.
Over the past two decades large sections of glacier, Many of them dwarfing Rhode Island, have broken off from the Antarctic Glacial Shelf and fallen to the sea.
Switchgrass is one potential biofuel that is closely being explored by experts. It may have a role in the sustainable energy future.
