Overall, solar is one of the cleanest energies for the environment. Solar cells are usually made from silicon, which is basically sand. The silicon is doped with phosphorus to create the N-type, or negative layer, which is the top layer. The bottom layer of silicon is doped with boron which creates the P-type, or positive layer. When the sun hits the N-type layer it knocks electrons free to flow from the n-type layer to the p-type layer. In doing this an electic current is made. String enough solar cells together and voila, you can power anything.
What is the largest traded commodity in the world?
Water
DID YOU KNOW
At one time, most of the US continent was covered by water, which is why ocean fossils are found in places like the Grand Canyon.
Switchgrass is one potential biofuel that is closely being explored by experts. It may have a role in the sustainable energy future.
