Sustainable Living
Wind Turbines

It's going to to become much easier to live sustainably in the future. It already has: Hybrid cars, efficient solar panels, new wind technologies, organic food readily available, and most importantly: the cultural, economic, and maybe even spiritual movement to start taking care of our environment.

Take the sustainable living crash course - Learn how to get started today living a sustainable life.

Energy Options

wind generatorFossil fuels have become far too troublesome to bear using much longer. From Global Warming to a geopolitical nightmare. The aquisition and use of fossil fuels is dangerous. We already have all the alternatives we need. It's time to start using them. Wind, Solar, Tidal, and Geothermal are probably the cleanest energy sources we can use today. Not every place on earth can use all of these types of energy, but almost every place on earth can surely use one of them.

Recycling and Consumerism

Garbage pileNot everyone is guilty of being a super consumer, however, Americans like myself, are. As Americans we make up less that 5% of the worlds population, yet we use 25% of the worlds resources. Do you see a problem with that? We produce more garbage per person than any other nation on the planet. Though it comes naturally for the worlds most successful capitalist country, something has to change. Our American economics have not included the environment in the calculations and now we are starting to pay for those "invisible" costs.

Farming and Gardening

farmingLiving sustainably starts at home. Though we can't all own a 50 acre farm, its important that we start to localize our food supplies better. A constant redistribution of natural resources to foreign locales creates environmental starvation. Its not just food either. For instance, a flower is made up of 80% water. Now take millions of flowers from a certain location and disperse them away from their source. Thats whats happening in places like Holland and other flower growers in Europe. You probably never thought buying flowers could hurt the environment, but its just one of many problems with large scale, long range distribution of any kind.

Transportation and Logistics

CarsDo you own an SUV or truck? if so, how often is it full? Do you drive down the road to work every day, passing other people in their SUV's or trucks? I do. To be fair, some people really need these vehicles. Others would say "It's a free country" I'll drive what I want. Thats fine too. But when you wake up and turn the TV on to check the smog report, something is amiss. Maybe you might think about taking the bus? the train possibly? neither sound too enticing to me, but choking through smog every time I go outside sounds much worse.
