By "Toxifying Land Area" I mean that the land has become incapable of harboring life due to abnormal chemical properties in the sediment or soil. This can be large or small. You might know that when you spill gasoline on your lawn, the grass dies. This, although small and trivial, is a small scale example of what real, serious land toxification can do.
Chernobyl, the site of the worst Nuclear Powerpant meltdown in history, is maybe the poster child for a toxified land area. The area will remain radioactive and prone to handing out amalgamations of all sorts on the life that resides in it for thousands of years. In fact, the tomb , or container than is surrounding the remains of Chernobyl reportedly has many holes in it and is likely to be harboring even worse radiation. Radiation that will likely seep out in the future.
Other types of land toxification include areas where powerful Chemicals were used for mass flora destruction and for pesticide control. Two of the more well known of these Chemicals would be DDT and Agent Orange.
Agent Orange is a powerful herbicide developed by the United States. Though Agent Orange was never widely used outside of the Vietnam war, its effects are still being felt today. Many United States veterans are suffering from the adverse and unexpected effects that the chemical agent has. Surely these effects are still haunting the local communities in Vietnam where Agent Orange was used.
DDT, a powerful pesticide, was developed to fend off Misquitos. Quickly it was realized that DDT is extremely harmful to the environment and its inhabitants. DDT has been banned throughout the globe, though it is still used in some remote regions.
These few examples just show the carelessness that has been present in our present day culture. The arrogance we have towards nature must be absolved.
Photo-voltaic solar power is based from principles first theorized by Albert Einstein. In fact, it is for his discovery of this, not relativity, which won Einstein the Nobel Prize in 1922.
