Launch of ExtinctEarth

Today is Earth Day and the official launch of extinctearth.org. We hope you enjoy looking around the site and maybe learn something new about the world. The ExtinctEarth crew has worked very hard to bring you this site and plan to work harder to make it the best it can be. ExtinctEarth is not the crew’s website; it is yours the user’s site. We want user involvement in the site by adding to the discussion forums to giving feedback on how to make the website better. We have dreams for the future but we need your help to make them a reality, become part of the solution and not just a problem. Join and support our Earth!!!!

My President's Day thoughts!

This blog is the thoughts of the author and not that of extinctearth.org

Today, February 16th is Presidents Day; it was originally celebrated because of George Washington’s birthday, but now is also celebrated because another great president, Abraham Lincoln, was also born in February. So, I have spent the last few hours watching online clips and reading about our nations past presidents and our great nation’s history. I’ve learned new things and refreshed some of the things I learned in 8th grade history, but surfing the net brought up a few bad feelings as well. I’ll try to cut to the point, although I could go on forever. Like our past President’s, we as a society have made mistakes but have also done some great things, however to do not have to agree on everything. Our Forefathers didn’t agree on everything, that’s why we have the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, they came to a compromise. Days like today bring out a little extra patriotism in me, though my definition of patriotism might be different from another person’s. I say this because I do not find supporting corrupt business practices and political wrong-doing, patriotic. Although, whoever runs patriotism.org seems to somewhat think so; I say this not to start a “feud”, but to make a little point. On their page about the President’s Day holiday, they mention consumer overspending and misuse of Bush’s stimulus checks. They say use it on ones needs; they also say you should have used it on paying off consumer debt like credit cards instead of buying that fancy new TV. Hey I’m not completely disagreeing but what caused the problem in the first place, bad business practices and political wrong-doing. Also, I would like to point out that on patriotism.org’s homepage they have a link to get a credit card, oh bureaucratic irony of it all.

Anyway like my “book of faces” (facebook), status says “learn about our nation’s history today so we are not doomed to repeat the mistakes.”

The first of many blogs

This is my first official blog, and there will be manymore to come. Ill try to keep this one somewhat short. I plan to talk about a variety of different things on here, my own observations and thoughts, destruction of ecosystems and the rebuilding efforts, activities in government that affect the environment, thing you can do to help out, and the list go on. Our blogs are our own thoughts and not that of the thoughts of extinctearth.

So I’m 23 years old and just moved to a new town, St. Cloud, Mn, so I decided to head downtown to check out the bar scene with my brother-in law. We had a good time, had a few drinks, checked out a couple bars, and saw a few bands. But as it always is, my mind was racing and trying to integrate my immediate environment, in this case the “bar”, with the rest of the world in whole. Every bar we went to had a tremendous amount of T.V.’s in every direction. There were multiple T.V.’s on every wall, which nobody was really paying attention too. A few bars had bands play while 15 T.V’s were on in the background, really? So you pay a cover charge to see a band, but yet there is T.V. to watch. I wonder how much electricity would be saved if the majority of the T.V’s were taken out of the bars in this nation. Maybe it’s just me but I like to have conversations with people or if there is live music, actually WATCH the band. I guess what I’m saying is what is the need for all the T.V’s, there just wasting energy. I’m not saying T.V.’s are bad, but why that many, its not needed. I use this as an example of many small things that are happening that affect the world in a whole. Everything is integrated in some form, we need to change the way we do things in everyday living. Yeah we won’t be perfect, and we won’t be completely energy independent or not impact the earth in some way, but we can change the extent of the damage and proliferate our human existence into the future.

Thank you for reading my first blog and I really look forward in writing many more in the future. And I would like to ask any of the visitors of extinctearth, to contact us. It could be about anything, an idea, something you would like to see on the site, or ways you would like to contribute. We want this to be about everybody, this is not our site it’s your site. Though user activity and input, WE can make a difference.
